E-Challan System
The Home Department, Govt of Maharashtra has empowered Mumbai Traffic Police with e-Challan system to fully automate the enforcement of traffic fines throughout Mumbai City. E-Challan system is integrated with CCTV and Speed Cameras of Mumbai City Surveillance Project. Currently the speed cameras are installed at several places including Bandra - Worli Sea Link, Eastern and Western Expressway, Marine Drive, Eastern Freeway, etc.
Mumbai City Surveillance / CCTV Project
Government of Maharashtra has provided Mumbai Police a holistic and integrated video surveillance system in Mumbai with the objective of enhancing safety and security in the city. This system is integrated with surveillance systems of different stakeholders with the objective of enhancing safety and security in the city.
Elder Help Line
One cannot escape the fact that senior citizens are at a much greater risk today than ever before. After all, a worrying number of the elderly live on their own. Abandoned by their uncaring families, they are left completely helpless in crisis and extremely vulnerable to criminal elements, health problems and depression. But now they will have a family of their own again; a family of thousands called ElderLine.
HELP IS AT HAND
Now all senior citizens have to do to get assistance, is call ElderLine on 1090. An initiative of the Mumbai Police with The Times of India as media partner and Spanco Telesystems and Solutions as technology partner, ElderLine is a special service that will take care of the physical and mental well-being of senior citizens, any time. With ElderLine, help is now at hand.
Senior Citizens can call Elder Helpline:
1. When they urgently require the help of medical professionals.
2. 2. When they face situations that involve physical violence or pose a risk to their lives.
3. Senior Citizens may directly call 1090 to register themselves.
All they have to do is call the toll free number 1090.
THE PROTECTIVE CIRCLE
ElderLine is a momentous initiative where the Mumbai Police brings together volunteer doctors, clinics, hospitals, counsellors, social workers, ordinary citizens, police personnel and the best of technology to aid the elderly. Absolutely any able and compassionate individual or organisation can become a volunteer. Every volunteer will go through a simple interview and complete background check, and then given a special identity card. Volunteers will be allowed to decide days and times when they’ll be available. And even if they are busy at a particular moment, all they will have to do is to inform Elderline.
BACK END SYSTEM
ElderLine is equipped with an advanced GPS-based tracking and dispatch system. So the minute a person calls 1090, his/her exact location is accurately revealed on our screens. Similarly, it also helps us track, contact and dispatch appropriate volunteers or, if need be, a police mobile immediately. ElderLine maintains a large database of volunteers so that there is always one ready to go. In case no volunteers are available, police personnel are dispatched instantly. All this to ensure that we reach people faster and help them better.
24X7 Citizen Assistance through Social Media
With the advent of always connected smartphones available to citizen and widespread social media, we cannot shy away from our presence on social media. Mumbai police has active presence on social media and assisting citizen on various police related issues. @MumbaiPolice twitter handle has more than 4.6 Million followers and @CPMumbaiPolice has more than 3.2 Million followers. Dedicated social media team at Mumbai Police Head Quarters is available 24X7 to answer the queries of netizens and provide all possible help.
Mumbai Police Information System (MPIS System)
MPIS System was aimed at digitizing processes in day to day policing and improving the productivity of Mumbai Police. All Police Stations , zonal offices, crime branch, traffic units, administration and monitoring staff of Mumbai Police are connected by MPLS virtual private network (VPN). Through MPIS, police notices, news articles, daily crime reports, court matters, daily planer, accommodation of police personnel, daily bulletins can be uploaded, accessed and video-conferences can be held. Through the portal’s ‘Tapal’ service, memos, letters and notices, confidential information can be disbursed across all police stations. Digital Kiosks are established at all police stations and offices. Officers and staff of Mumbai Police can access all the data and information of MPIS through these kiosks. MPIS has done away with the need to travel from field units to head office. Thus saving huge amount of time and manpower. MPIS is a significant step towards paperless governance.
Video Conferencing and Hot Lines
All Police Stations , zonal offices, crime branch, traffic units and other filed units of Mumbai Police are connected through secure MPLS Virtual Private Network (VPN). Sitting in head office, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai can address all the offices / officers of Mumbai Police through a secure Video Conferencing Channel. VC is used for briefing officers on crime, investigation, law and order, etc. This has reduced the need to travel from field units to head office and thus saving huge amount of time and manpower. All Police Stations and offices are being provided with dedicated, secure hotline for communication.
M Passport Seva
Manual process of Police verification for passport is done away with and applicants can now get their Police Clearance Certificate hassle free. All police stations and offices are now provided with Tabs which have M Passport Seva Application. Police verification requests are received online and the verification officer personally goes to the house of applicant. The documents of the applicant are scanned on the spot using the Tab and submitted to the passport verification server securely. The photograph of the applicant is also taken on the spot. The Police Verification for passport is now made faster, simpler, efficient and transparent.
AMBIS (Automated Multi-Modal Biometric Identification System)
AMBIS system is aimed at detection of crime based on available fingerprints, palm print, iris scan data of criminals on record as well as chance finger prints collected from the scene of crime. The new system will mark a shift from prevailing manual detection system - using magnifying glasses - to a highly accurate, tech driven process. All police stations are directly connected to AMBIS server for fingerprint, palm print and iris scanning and detection. AMBIS will help keep a track of the accused in serious offences by the way of biometric record. The system will contribute significantly for improving the conviction rate.
Cyber Crime Awareness Programs and Fight Against Cyber Crime
Mumbai Police has dedicated Cyber Crime wing headed by a DCP rank officer. The Mumbai police has set up a dedicated cyber cell at each police stations to curb rising technology-related cases in the city. The cell will comprise a police inspector, two sub-inspectors and two to three constables. Mumbai Police has a 24X7 dedicated Cyber Helpline Number (9820810007) at Cyber Police Station, BKC. Cyber awareness programmes / lectures are regularly arranged at various schools, colleges, institutes and organizations. Posters and Documentaries on Cyber Crime are prepared and circulated on social media.
Digital Forensic and Analysis Tools for Detection, Investigation of Crime
Technology and innovation play a key role in crime detection, investigation and responding to ever-changing criminal methods. Technology proves to be a game changer in detection of modern crimes. The Crime Branch, Mumbai Police is equipped with modern technological tools and softwares for detection and investigation of crime. Digital Forensic Tools, Mobile / PDA Forensic Tools, Advanced Mobile Call data analysis tools, Social Network Analysis tools and several other tools & Softwares are being used for detection, investigation and analysis of crime.
