BYCULLA POLICE STATION

The building of the Byculla Police Station was built in 1924. Byculla police station is the first police station in Mumbai and this building is a heritage building.

Byculla police station is considered as the most sensitive and most important police station in Mumbai Police Commissionerate. The people in the areas of Byculla police station are belongs to mixed religions/castes. The population of the Byculla police station is approximately 25,00,000/-, which is divided into 45 percent Muslim community, 45 percent Hindu community, and 10 percent others (Buddhist, Christian, Sikh, Parsi etc).

The Byculla Police Station is divided into 4 fixed areas. This police station has the boundary of 3 railway stations and 6 police stations. Under this Police Station, there are Government/Semi Government offices like Service Tax Bhawan, Mazgaon Reservoir, Best Receiving Station, Central Railway Signal / Telephone Workshop, and Meghaon Telephone Exchange. Also the places such as Jijamata Park a tourist attraction and a traffic police training center come under its jurisdiction.

Similarly, senior police officers and police men are staying in five locations of Byculla Police Station. This Police Station has a mixed inhabitant, 19 Temples, 10 Masjids, 4 dargahs, 3 Buddha Vihars, 7 Jain temples, 5 churches, 3 Agyaries, and 1 Gurudwara and 4 Graveyards. Large number of Muslims gather together to celebrate Id-e-Milad at Khilafat house, for celebration of badi raat at Naralwadi graveyard, for celebration of Moharam at Arambagh Kabrastan and Rahamatabad Kabrastan. From last 10 years, the line for the Mukh Darshan of Lalbaghcha Raja Ganpati is being planned by the Byculla Police Station. Apart from this, during the assembly and other periods the political parties and various organizations gather at "Jijamata Park for the purpose of Morchas ". Therefore, controlling such an intruder is a challenge for the police station.
